Overview

The Distortion Panel in Hamburger V2 contains several different types of distortion, each with their own unique tonal characteristics.

The main knob in the center of the panel is the saturation control, which applies the selected distortion type to the input signal. There are also three additional knobs for controlling specific distortion effects: Fold, Sizzle, and Fuzz.

Take note

Due to early access, the distortion types or the UI might be changed at any time.

All the different distortion types are capable of producing a wide range of sounds, from subtle fattened flair to planet-destructive distortion. The distortion types are described in more detail here:

Distortion Types

  • Soft Clipping: Smooth, gentle distortion with a warm and analog character.
  • Hard Clipping: Similar to Soft Clipping but with slightly extra high-end. Sounds very similar to Soft Clipping on extreme settings.
  • Tube Amp Emulation: Emulates the sound of a vintage tube amplifier, with a rich and full-bodied character.
  • Erosion: A harsh, digital, weathered distortion, with some high end sparkle inspired by the Ableton stock device of the same name
  • Downsampling: A digital distortion that reduces the sample rate and bit rate of the signal, creating a gritty and crunchy character.
  • Jeff: An arbitrary, wet distortion type.
  • Sizzle: An arbitrary distortion type that adds high end by introducing white noise to a signal based on the input volume. Sounds like the sizzle of a patty on the grill :)
  • Fold: A folding distortion type that adds tons of harmonics to the signal. On extreme settings at loud volumes, it will turn any signal into white noise.
  • Fuzz: An arbitrary distortion type that emulates the sound of a classic fuzz pedal, 'squarifying' the signal.

Parameters

Here is a list of the parameters in the Distortion Panel, along with their ranges, default values and a brief description of each parameter:

Saturation: 0% (Range 0% - 100%)
  • The saturation control is the main knob in the center of the panel, and it applies the selected distortion type to the input signal.
Fold: 0% (Range 0% - 100%)
  • The control for the fold distortion effect, as described in the Distortion Types heading.
Sizzle: 0% (Range 0% - 100%)
  • The control for the sizzle distortion effect, as described in the Distortion Types heading.

Audio Examples

To hear the different distortion types and effects in action, you can listen to the audio examples provided in the Hamburger V2 plugin or load a sample or instrument into your DAW and experiment with the different distortion types and effects.

Tips and Tricks

  • Experiment with how the Emphasis EQ affects the sound of different distortion types. You can get surprising results!
  • Use the dry/wet control to blend the distorted and original signals in a parallel signal chain.
  • Use the Fold, Sizzle, and Fuzz controls to add multiple layers of character and texture to your sound.
  • Combine the Distortion Panel with other effects in Hamburger V2 to create complex and layered sounds.
